Creature Feature!!!

GENERIC MAN!!
real name: Timothy

For this assignment I was assigned to make 2 single allele traits, a codominate trait, multiple allele trait, sex linked trait and an incomplete dominance trait. I did my best to be creative and do something no one else would do, I think I succeeded.

Single Allele Trait:
**One allele to express a phenotype**
There was curly web that would come out of his wrists or straight web, I chose straight web. As you can easily see in my final product.

Codominate Trait:
**Codominance: Shows both phenotypes**
A women with a superhero mask mated with superman (no mask) and that got Timothy who has half mask and half normal.

Multiple Allele Trait:
**Multiple Alleles: multiple outcomes from the alleles that show the same trait**
This guy flies, there is no exception he will fly. So for this one I chose he could fly with big wings, by fire (like human torch) or just without anything he just does (superman). As you can easily he got the best: fire!!!

Sex Linked Trait:
**there are carriers, and those who express the trait. Happens through sex**
This trait deals with laser beams coming out of his eyes. These options are strangely similar to color blindness and hemophilia. He has the X,Y (male, has trait)
X,X (female carrier) X,Y (Male expressing trait)
X,X, (Female expressing trait)

Incomplete Dominance:
**Incomplete Dominance: meets half way**
Timothy was born from a guy with two eyes (like superman) who mated with someone with no eyes (some chick with no eyes). This gives him one eye!!

All of this makes: Some guy who is for some reason in a tux top and jeans. He has Half a mask and half face showing with one eye. He is shooting straight web from both hands and is flying by the use of fire!!

Debate: Nature vs. Nurture

CON: "BEHAVIOR CAN BE TRACED BACK TO GENETIC MAKE-UP"

Information I gained from research:
  • Late 80's many scientists "discovered" a link between Schizophenia and manic depression and alcoholism. But further testing proved these clams completely wrong
  • It has been proven that past the age of ~16 whatever the kid has decided he/she will keep their opinion for the rest of their life and no one can change it.
  • John Watson took (like adopted not kidnapped) an orphan named Albert and demonstrated that the acquisition of a phobia could be explained by the way it was raised, not necessarily born with that phobia. In other words it was how the child was raised that created that phobia not it was born with that phobia. For example I do not like spiders, I just don't. I am almost positive that it was because when I was pretty little like 8-ish, it was near Halloween time and my sister put a spider on my head (a fake rubber one) and I flipped out! I ran around and freaked out constantly. I think this did it because before that I really didn't care about spiders, its not like I liked them or anything, I was neutral, but after that, I won't step near another spider unless I'm going to kill it.
  • B.F. Skinner (a Harvard psychologist) produced pigeons that could "dance" and do figure 8's. This was obviously from strict teachings not being born with that ability. On my feedback I received that I should check my sources and some of my info. might be false. I think this is where that is coming from, I'm not sure how legitimate this website is but I put the information on here just in case it is true.
  • Studies show that a sense of humor is learned from parenting.
  • The majority of people in prisons were brought up in a hostile environment. There are some that weren't brought up that way and are just sick people but this obviously shows that the hostile environment plays a BIG part in the ethics of people.
  • Identical twins are perfect examples. It has been proven that if two identical twins were raised in two completely different environments, they will be different people. This is a perfect example because they look just alike, the also have similar genetic make-up. So this shows perfectly that it is nurture not nature.
  • Studies show that a good percent of people that were raised in an arguing family that ended in a messy divorce, their children will end up that way too.

Reflection to debate

Argument length: 2:45

without looking at the paper I got for feedback:

Pros: I think I had good research and mention of good sources (names). I also believe that I did a Pretty good job countering.

Cons: Transitions were rough, I was solely Logos. I said "ummm." Definitely not one of my best. I didn't get into it like I usually do.

What my feedback from other people said:

Pros: Good points, good engagement with target audience, good eye contact, good citation of research, good use of B.F. Skinner and Watson's work.

Cons: Argument seemed fragmented. Where is this research from? I need to work on transitions.

I thought it was rough and I didn't try my best to put my heart into like I normally would have. I think this is because I didn't have a audience to stand up in front of. I wasn't here the week it was supposed to be preformed in front of the class, so I only had to deal with the pressure of Mr. Craze and Lindi watching me, which was a lot easier. This was an alright debate (because of the effort) but actually (for once) fun to research. I enjoyed this topic and found in interesting. Finding things from both sides helped me counter Lindi's argument. I would just like to throw in that I thought that Lindi did a great job with her debate especially because she was emotionally connected to one side. The problem is, it wasn't the side she believed in. She believed in the side I was fighting for. And it is impossible to win an argument if you don't believe in it.

My Opinion

Before the research I believed it was strictly nurture, but after looking at some of the things that have been proven by various scientists, I believe it is a mixture. A lot like this picture.
This picture shows how they blend into each other. The blue blends into the red. So its as if the blue represents nature and the red represents nurture. They blend into each other and feed off of each other. There is not one without the other. Its a half and half sort of thing but not exactly half. They kinda blend into each other.
